Don’t miss it! After a great night last summer The Three Double Basses (Andy Kirkland, Geoff Cook & Paula Robinson) have been invited back. They will be each be playing short sets of small group jazz with a trio.

Finally they will together play three arrangements that Geoff has written for all three Double Basses together.

It will be a night with something for every one. Many styles of jazz, and a chance to see what the Double Bass can do!

The Swinging Bass Trio has been booked to play during drinks at a wedding at Nuthurst Grange, Hockley Heath, Warwickshire, in November.

1. The Christmas Party bookings have started and the 5-piece band has been booked by Hörmann (UK) for a corporate Christmas Party in December. It’s to be held at the Castle Hotel, Kirby Muxloe, Leicestershire.

2. The second booking is another corporate event. Clugston Construction, Lincolnshire, is celebrating their 75th Anniversary in July at a venue near Doncaster. They have booked the trio for the afternoon and the 5-piece band for their black tie evening reception.

3. We have been asked to play at an afternoon GARDEN PARTY for 100 people at a private house just outside ASHBOURNE, Derbyshire, in August. The trio will be playing background music.

A charity event to raise funds for the Children’s Society that was being organised at Langley Priory, Diseworth, Derbyshire, has now been moved to Derbyshire County Cricket Ground. The Swinging Bass Trio has been invited to play and help to raise funds for this good cause.

It will be in the afternoon of Wednesday 30th May 2012.

Langley Priory was founded in 1154 and was a priory until the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1536. The amazing gardens were laid out in the 1780’s. It is now a private house which also hosts wedding celebrations.

A few months ago The Swinging Bass Band played at a wonderful summer wedding party in a marquee which was in the garden of the bride’s parent’s home. There were over 100 guests who enjoyed the summer afternoon weather before moving into the marquee.

The band began with You Make Me Feel So Young, Fly Me To The Moon and Come Fly With Me. When the bride and groom were ready we played their first dance, Dusty Springfield’s I Only Want To Be With You. We often are asked for Let There Be Love and Moondance so we played these and soon after some from Michael Bublé.

It was not long before it was right to include some pop covers, Isn’t She Lovely and Lovely Day, Mustang Sally, Good Times and Get Down On It. The guests were in the party mood and loved Mack The Knife, Jailhouse Rock and Rocking All Over The World.

The last hour was provided by a DJ friend who kept the party going.

On Tuesday April 24th 2012 The Three Double Basses, Andy Kirkland, Geoff Cook and Paula Robinson, have been invited back to play another evening at the Regent Sports & Social Club, 102 Regent Road, Leicester, LE1 7DA.

They last played there in June 2011 to a full house. Each Double Bass played for 20 minutes accompanied by the house band, and a few guests, in each half of the evening. Finally, they played arrangements which Geoff had written for 3 double basses of Duke Ellington compositions.

The house band this time will also comprise Peter Houtman (keyboard), Richard Everitt (sax) and Andrew Sime (drums).

Andy leads The Swinging Bass Band which plays at weddings, family events and corporate functions.

It was a very hot July day when The Swinging Bass band played at The Pavilion, Branston Golf and Country Club, Burton on Trent, Staffordshire. The six piece live band had been booked to play for the evening party.

Our vocalist and guitar wiz, Dave, was still on holiday, so again we invited John, a great friend and Sinatra and Bublé vocalist, to be with us. He is no mean pop vocalist too, and guaranteed to get a party going!

It was decided to play 3 sets and the first dance was medley of You Make Me Feel So Young, Fly Me To The Moon and Come Fly With Me. This was followed with Moondance, all as Michael Bublé would sing them.

As the evening developed we moved from swing music to rock and roll (Blue Suede Shoes, See You Later Alligator), onto include hits like Dance the Night Away and Rocking All Over The World. We finished with New York, New York.

It was a hot summer night, and the guests generated a lot of their own heat too dancing and enjoying themselves!
